      Guest Speaker – Ms. Jennifer Rey, Esq., SPHR, GPHR – The Hogan Law Firm

      Topic – Legal Pitfalls for the Small Business Employer

       

      Ms. Rey earned her Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University College of Law, and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2007. She is currently admitted to practice in Florida and Wyoming. As a licensed attorney, she practices in labor and employment law (management), business formation and compliance, corporate and commercial litigation, commercial transactions and government law. Ms. Rey has litigated wage and hour, FMLA, wrongful termination, performance and payment bond, trade infringement and various contract dispute matters for corporate, not-for-profit and government clients. She has represented clients and employers before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Department of Labor (DOL), Public Employee Relations Commission (PERC), Florida Board of Education, Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation Unemployment Division (AWI) and the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR). She has also represented employers in collective bargaining negotiations. She served as a federal litigation intern with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida and interned with the in-house counsel office for Tech Data Corporation, a Fortune 500 company and one of the world’s largest IT product distributors. Ms. Rey conducted or facilitated a variety of trainings on recruitment and selection best practices, workplace harassment, and equal employment opportunity. She presented “You Can’t Take It With You,” a concurrent session on non-compete and confidentiality agreements, at the 2010 HR Florida State Conference and “Fundamentals of Human Resource Management” at the 2013 Wyoming Municipal Institute. She has also presented topics on “Wage and Hour Compliance in Florida,” “Avoiding the Penalty Box: Why In House Mediation Programs Can Be Effective,” “Residential Foreclosure Mediation: An Overview” and the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.”
